A group of eight Contemporary Quilt members met at Woodbury Village Hall on 7th December for a festive pre Christmas get together.
We started the day with a show and tell, which was particularly interesting, possibly because we were a small group. We had time to examine things properly and there was much discussion. I certainly learned a lot about materials and techniques I was unfamiliar with.
Jane Syers then led a very well prepared workshop based on the work of Janet Bolton, who creates hand sewn naive textile pictures, often on a small scale. There were books and pictures to study, brought along by Jane and some of the participants, as well as a sample Jane had prepared beforehand. Four attendees worked on unfinished items, some of which became delightful Christmas gifts, andthree of us worked under Jane's guidance on our own pictures in the style of Janet Bolton.
We were sustained by mince pies, scrumptious biscuits and other naughty delights, which all aided the creative process! We made good progress with our pieces and all three of us finished them off at home before Christmas, which I think indicates the success of the workshop.
During the day we also managed to squeeze in a rapid introduction to making Christmas bunting. Templates were taken away along with good intentions ( of making some for next Christmas!)
Getting to know each other better was an unexpected bonus of having a smaller group than usual and there is no doubt, we all enjoyed the day very much.
P.S. Janet Bolton will be showing and talking about her work on the evening of Monday 15th June in Kennford, near Exeter. Please click on the link below for full information and a booking form.
